The general contractor brought us in to take down a former Hardee's in Greensboro to make way for a new bank. Building down, slab out, site cleared and debris hauled to our landfill in our trailers, on the schedule the general contractor needed.
For the general contractor, we took a 40,000-square-foot furniture showroom down to the slab in days. Steel was pulled out and sorted for recycling on site, debris went straight into our roll-offs and out to our landfill, and the pad was left clean for what comes next.
For the general contractor, we removed the asbestos and then demolished the 16,000-square-foot fire station, hauled the debris to our facilities and left a clean, graded lot ready for what comes next.
The project owner hired us to handle the whole Brooks school site. We handled the tree clearing, erosion control, temporary jobsite fencing, friable and non-friable asbestos removal, an 8,000-gallon tank removal, demolition of the 60,000-square-foot building and its boiler room, basement backfill, and rough grading and seeding.
Before the building came down, we found a local hybrid academy that needed school furniture and donated the desks, chairs and equipment left behind. All metal and concrete was recycled, and the rest of the debris went to our landfill in Greensboro.
Because we handle abatement, demolition, hauling, recycling and disposal ourselves, we estimate the job cost the project owner at least $100,000 less than the other bids.
The project owner had a stockpile of old concrete from the I-26 widening outside Asheville sitting at its Hendersonville quarry. Our crew set up a full crushing and screening spread on site and crushed it into recycled aggregate the owner could sell. Our excavators, crushers, screens and stackers, run by our operators.
We set up and ran a complete crushing and screening operation at a brand-new quarry: jaw and cone crushers, a scalping screener, a wash plant and six stacking conveyors. Over two years we produced more than 475,000 tons of road-grade stone.
A leading manufacturer needed $100 million of unused cotton face masks, made for the COVID-19 pandemic, destroyed securely. Over three months we processed 645 tractor-trailer loads through our Overdale Road transfer station and finished ahead of schedule.
When the Winston-Salem fertilizer plant fire forced thousands of evacuations, the contractor running the response needed aggregate fast to build containment berms that kept fire-fighting foam and water out of a nearby creek. Our Winston-Salem yard was close enough to make it work: we crushed recycled concrete right there and kept trucks turning around the clock, loading through the night under lights, and delivered 3,700 tons of recycled aggregate in 36 hours. A supplier farther away could not have kept up.
Excavation at the Brownfield Road Landfill turned up mountains of rock. We broke the oversized boulders with a hydraulic hammer, ran everything through our jaw crusher, and stacked it into usable aggregate, 117,000 tons in just three months.
December 17, 2025. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality approved A-1 Sandrock to operate an expanded construction and demolition landfill in Greensboro, adding years of local disposal capacity for Triad builders.
