From one sand pit to a full-service company

We are built on history, vision and hard work. We serve homeowners, contractors and industry with the same promise: great service, on time, done safely.

1979
Gene Petty starts A-1 Sandrock, supplying local sand-rock to road builders, and later opens a construction debris landfill.
2006
Ronnie Petty III reopens A-1 Sandrock with a new landfill and grows into recycling, mobile crushing and materials.
2011
Absolute Recycling Contractors is formed, adding home and business trash hauling.
2020
A-1 buys the Overdale Road Transfer Station in Winston-Salem.
2023
The family of companies comes together as A-1 Service Group.
2025
The state approves the expansion of our Bishop Road landfill.

Safety

Our experience modification rate (EMR), the insurance industry's safety score, is 0.78. The average company is 1.0, so our safety record is about 22% better than average. Ask us for our EMR letter and OSHA logs for your prequalification file.

Training

Weekly team safety meetings, monthly driver meetings, pre-job safety briefings and federal mine-safety training for quarry crews.

Equipment

Inspections before and after every trip, regular maintenance checks, current safety gear and constant fleet monitoring.
